Back to School

It’s that time of year when my thoughts turn to back-to-school activities.  I can’t help it.  As much as I try to block these thoughts out, they inevitably rear their ugly head during peaceful walks at the beach or while swimming laps in the pool.

There are some lucky teachers out there who know what, when, and where they’ll be teaching. They also are given plenty of time to prepare for students’ return.  I don’t know where these teachers exist, but I’m told this is true.

During my over twelve years of teaching, I have not been so blessed.  And, like many of you, I’m lucky to steal a couple of hours from those first day of school “team building exercises” and “data analysis” marathons to - you know - actually prepare a lesson for the returning kids.

My first days of school go-to lesson for Newcomer to Intermediate level ESL learners is my About Me Writing, Speaking, and Listening activity. This resource is the perfect activity addressing all of the “unknowns.”   How much English do my students know?  Can they write a sentence?  How much can they speak? Understand?

At the end of the project, students at all levels of English feel successful … and I have a formative assessment of what my ESL students know and can do.  Did I mention these look great on your bulletin board? Win! Win! & Win!

But wait!  You have a choice of two versions - Google Drive or Print!  And, there’s more!  You can now get the Bundle.  That’s two resources for a reduced price!  You know, in case of that pesky last-minute quarantine where you change into your super hero outfit and fly into “remote” mode.
