Back to School Jitters

It’s almost August - which means we’re being bombarded with Back to School Ads. I try to avert my eyes to this madness, but it’s hard when these abominations interupt my serene viewing of YouTube cat videos.

One of the things I like about being a teacher is we are so attuned to the change of seasons. Fall means Halloween and Thanksgiving. Winter is Christmas, coats, and praying for a snow day. Spring is testing season. And before you know it, we are out for summer break.

And so it begins. Another year. Another chance to make a difference in someone’s life. Another year of kvetching with our colleagues. One hundred eighty days of setting the alarm for 5:30AM. Bulletin boards, IEPs, lesson plans, behavior management, differentiation, curriculum writing, useless PD, useless paperwork, craven politicians, vindictive administration, complaining parents, laughter, jokes, and joy. Here we go!

Try to cherish the year. The good and the bad. Before we know it, it will be testing season!

Peace,
Robin
